Meet Freddy

Freddy Cassivi was originally drafted into the NHL in 1994, Round 9, #210 overall, by the Ottawa Senators. He spent four years in the minors for Ottawa before signing with the Colorado Avalanche in 1999 as a free agent. At this time, Cassivi was sent to the club's AHL team in Hershey,PA, which, little would he realize at the time, would become a permanent home years later.
In 2002, Cassivi was traded to the Atlanta Thrashers where he played and won his first NHL game. For three seasons, he split time between the Thrashers and the Chicago Wolves, their AHL affiliate, where he won his first Calder Cup. Cassivi spent the 2004-05 season with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks posting career best save percentage of .924 and GAA of 2.04 and a league high 10 shutouts. In 2005-2006, Cassivi became a member of the Washington Capitals and made his welcomed return to Hershey posting one of the best seasons ever by a Hershey goaltender. He appeared in 61 games, recorded the AHL best 34 victories, and set an AHL record winning 16 playoff games leading Hershey to their ninth Calder Cup championship. Cassivi was honored as the Calder Cup Most Valuable Player. Cassivi has played a total of 16 NHL games with the Thrashers and the Capitals. In 2006-07 Cassivi lead the Bears to a second straight appearance to the Calder Cup Finals before losing to the Hamilton Bulldogs. He also appeared in 4 games with the Capitals. After the 2007-08 season, also spent with the Bears, Cassivi was 5th on the AHL all-time list for wins by a goaltender. Cassivi played for the Sinupret Ice Tigers of Nurnberg in the Deutsche Elite League in Germany in 2008-09 and currently plays for the Vienna Capitals in the Austrian Erste-Bank Liga.
